Harare- In keeping with its mantra of leaving no one and no place behind, this year’s main Independence celebrations will be held in Mt.Darwin, Mashonaland Central Province, Cabinet announced on Tuesday. This will be the second time that the celebrations will be held outside Harare since Independence in 1980, after Bulawayo hosted the event last year following a concious decision by the Second Republic to decentralise the hosting of national events. In a update on preparations for the day, Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said the choice of Mt. Darwin was because of the history of the area in relation to the war of liberation. “Mt. Darwin is important and entrenched in the annals of the country’s liberation history since it was the entry point for the both the Zimbabwe National Liberation Army (ZANLA) and the Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA) as they launched an offensive into the Front when the liberation struggle entered its decisive phase,” she said. “The venue of the 2023 Children’s Party and Independence Day Celebrations on 17 and 18 April will be Mt. hot pics Melissa Victoria Darwin Centre, in Mashonaland Central Province.”
The hosting of such events in other provinces outside Harare will help spotlight the areas and boost local economies through increased activities in hospitality and leisure facilities, for example.
