NDLOVU Secondary School which was damaged by a storm in November last year has been partly repaired with help from the local community.

An administration block, teachers’ cottages and 10 classroom blocks at the school were destroyed by heavy rains that were preceded by strong winds, leaving a trail of destruction in Ndlovu area.

Ndlovu Milling at the nearby business centre lost 10 tonnes of maize meal.

A water reservoir servicing Kachechete Ward and a waiting mothers’ quarter at Ndlovu Clinic were also destroyed.

Ndlovu Secondary School, a Government-run learning institution which was opened in 1984 and has an enrolment of 300 learners and 13 teachers, needs roofing sheets and trusses, furniture and learning material, among others.

A visit to the school recently showed that the administration and some classroom blocks had been partly roofed with zinc sheets.

Some blocks are still to be roofed.

The school is yet to replace damaged textbooks, furniture and other learning materials.

School authorities said only a quarter of the damage had been attended to to allow lessons to go on and the majority of the work was still to be done.

They are grateful to all well-wishers particularly businessmen Mr Khumbulani Tshambo and Mr Christopher Ndiweni, both of Victoria Falls and some individuals who provided the school with roofing material and other items.

Mr Morgen Gazza Dube, advisor of the Ndlovu Old Students Association said mobilisation of resources continues.

“Mobilisation has been slow but we are grateful that something has happened. Where we have reached has everything to do with mobilisation of the old students though we still wish to get more. A few players chipped in and we still continue to plead with the community to complete the project.

“We are only supporting the Government as we couldn’t fold our arms and wait for Government considering that this is something that had not been budgeted for,” he said. – The Chronicle
