Construction and surfacing of roads at the multi-million Cyber City in Harare has started in earnest with companies hard at work.

The city, that was only mooted a few months back is expected to be a first of its kind in Africa offering state-of-the-art facilities and building towards the country’s Vision 2030, to become an upper middle class economy.

Mr Paul Tempter Tungwarara, who is the special presidential investment advisor, and the man working with billionaire investors on the projects, said there was no Christmas break for the project.

“We are working round the clock to ensure we meet set deadlines, right now roads are being constructed, some have been constructed and we will also construct water reservoirs and other necessary facilities before the buildings are constructed, we are highly motivated with the support from Government,” said Mr Tungwarara.

A visit at the site showed Bitumen World at work, and the company has since opened some roads which are only awaiting tarring.

This smart city, is being built on 50 hectares in what also demonstrates growing investor confidence towards Zimbabwe, and that reality has since knocked out the negative perception which haunted Zimbabwe before the dawn of the Second Republic.

Mr Shaji Ul Mulk, the billionaire behind the project has already expressed confidence in the country.

“I would like to thank your President (Mnangagwa) for his support towards this project,” he said recently.

Mr Mulk is spearheading the construction of the Cyber city project, which will see the construction of a state-of-the-art complex in Mt Hampden, a few kilometres north of the capital city.

The cyber city project is the first investment to be made by a consortium of businesses from the Middle East under the Zimbabwe Global Investments Company.

It will be spread over 2,5 million square feet of land and is expected to have a shopping mall, luxury villas and apartments, cyber technology offices and other social facilities.

The facility will also house the Mulk Tower, projected to be the tallest building in Africa.

Zimbabwe is on the cusp of industrialisation and development which could see the influx of international capital and he is here to catch the fat worms ahead of competition. – The Herald
