A 40-year-old man from Mapholisa Village in Mangwe District, Matabeleland South province has been arrested for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl and impregnating her.
According to the police the two live in the same neighbourhood. Allegations are that on 4 August last year at around 5pm, the complainant was on her way home from school when she met the accused person.
The accused approached her and dragged her into the nearby bush where he raped her once.
“Sometime during the month of September on an unknown date at around 4pm the accused person met the complainant again in a bushy area near Mapholisa Village and dragged her into a nearby bush and raped her again,” said the police.
The accused raped the victim again in the months of October, November and December on different days upon meeting her at the Ramokgwebana River where he would drag her into the nearby bush and sexually assault her.
The matter came to light on 18 December 2022 when the complainant confided in her mother who had returned from Botswana where she works.
It was also discovered that the juvenile was pregnant. The matter was reported at ZRP Madabe post leading to the arrest of the accused person. – The Sunday News
