SUSPENDED Victoria Falls Mayor Somveli Dlamini has been accused of violating his bail conditions and a standing government directive by visiting his workplace and demanding to use the mayoral vehicle.
Dlamini is out on bail after he was arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission in October for alleged fraud and part of his bail conditions is that he does not visit the Victoria Falls offices to interfere with evidence and witnesses.
Dlamini was accused of fraudulently acquiring a commercial stand worth US$90 000.
The government has also said that local authority officials that have been arrested and their cases pending in the courts must not report for work until the finalisation of their cases.
Dlamini was not reachable for comment but Victoria Falls Town Clerk Ronnie Dube said they were consulting the government over his behaviour.
“The mayor has been coming to the office and requesting the mayoral vehicle, but I cannot comment on the issue as that will be prejudicial to the case at hand. However, we wrote to the Ministry of Local Government and we are waiting for a response and guidance on the matter,” he said.
Allegations against Dlamini are that in August 2022, he purported to be Valentine Munyaradzi Maseko for him to acquire a commercial stand after having already benefitted from the scheme based on being a council employee.
He paid US$10 000 as a deposit instead of the required US$25 000 with the rest to be settled within five days.
Dlamini however, failed to pay the balance and made a bank transfer of $7.5 million to the council leading to investigations by Zacc.
Investigations established that Dlamini prejudiced Victoria Falls City Council with US$15 000 and potential prejudice of US$66 462.
