FOUR people died after an Iveco Sprinter vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road and hit a tree at the 180 km peg along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road on Tuesday morning.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said six other passengers were injured and taken to Neshuro District Hospital for treatment.
The bodies were also taken to the same health facility for postmortem.
In another incident on the same day Nyathi said two people died while 12 others were injured in an accident involving five vehicles near Noik Mabvuku in Harare.
“A Toyota Wish with nine passengers on board which was travelling against the flow of traffic collided head on with a Toyota Corolla vehicle which had three passengers on board,” said Nyathi.
“As a result of the accident, the Toyota Wish vehicle swerved and collided with an Isuzu FXZ Auto Truck. Subsequently, the trailer of the truck unlocked and hit two vehicles, a Mazda 323 and Mercedes-Benz which were travelling in the opposite direction.”
Nyathi said one passenger who was in the Toyota Wish vehicle died on the spot while the other passenger died upon admission at Pacific Hospital in Mabvuku.
Meanwhile, the police have identified the six who died in an accident along the Kwekwe-Gokwe Road on Saturday.
The six were identified as Nathan Maphosa (65), Beaula Ndebele (17), Moleen Ndlovu (64) of Jojo village in Zhombe, Francis Shayauno (35) of Shayauno Village in Gokwe North and Patrick Bishop (28) of Redcliff in Kwekwe.
