Zanu PF romped to victory in by-elections held over the weekend including in Citizens Coalition for Change strongholds.
The elections were held in various wards across the country on Saturday.
In Binga Ward 20, the ruling party obtained 945 votes against CCC’s 546 votes, and also snatched Gweru ward 5 from the opposition after its candidate got 556 votes to the CCC candidate’s 472.
The two wards were both strongholds of the opposition and the victory by Zanu PF shows the party’s making inroads in the rural areas.
In Mberengwa wward 28 the revolutionary party got 726 vote s to the CCC’s measly 81 votes.
In the other two wards won by the CCC, the ruling party lost by small margins an indication observers say is an appreciation of the good work being done by President Mnangagwa’s administration.
In Gweru ward 4 Zanu PF got 300 votes to the CCC’s 643 while in ward 18 the ruling party received 182 votes to the CCC ‘s 250.
Communications Director at the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology said the results showed the electorate’s confidence in the ruling party.
“The results show how voters are solidly behind Zanu PF and President Mnangagwa who have initiated pro-people
policies that are tangible and have improved their livelihoods.
“This is an indication of what’s in store for the opposition come elections in 2023,” he said.
