Four family members from Mwenezi died on Sunday after eating food that was poisoned, with the post mortems showing death was caused by chemical toxins, police have said.

The four complained of severe stomach pains before they died. Police have since launched investigations into the death of the four at Musisinyani Village, Mwenezi, whose names are still being withheld.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said investigations into the case were still in progress and no arrests had been made.

Meanwhile, police are also investigating circumstances surrounding two killings at Dombwe Business Centre in Shurugwi where the bodies of Gilbert Dendere (40) and Tapfumanei Muza (30) were found lying at the business centre on Sunday with multiple stab wounds.

“The two victims were last seen having a fierce fight which resulted in all bars and shops being closed,” said Asst Comm Nyathi. “Police have arrested one of the victim’s brother, Farai Muza aged 27, as well as Kundai Chivite aged 23, Tobias Gweru aged 22 and Bradley Musindo aged 22 who allegedly tried to attack a bar lady with Columbian knives at the business centre, while accusing her employer of having a hand in the murder of Tapfumanei Muza.”

In Magwegwe, Bulawayo, police are investigating a case of exposing an infant in which a baby boy about a day-old was found dumped in grass besides a footpath joining New Lobengula and Inkanyezi Primary School in Lobengula West on Sunday.

Police said the umbilical cord was still attached to the baby who has since been taken to Mpilo Hospital for treatment.

No arrests have been made and police are appealing to anyone with information that might assist with investigations to contact any nearest police station. – The Herald
