PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa is in Niger where he joins other Heads of State for the African Union Summit on Industrialisation and Economic Diversification which kicked off on the 20th of November.

With calls for Africa to look within herself and utilise local resources to build her economy, the meeting of the Heads of State will shine the spotlight on industrialisation.

President Mnangagwa joins other leaders from the continent as they discuss the strides taken so far on the industrialisation drive and the way forward to ensure the continent maximises on its resources to propel economic growth.

The summit comes at a time when Zimbabwe has scored major milestones in growing the economy in various sectors which include mining, agriculture and tourism.

In the mining sector, the opening up of new mines and expansion of existing ones is expected to significantly contribute to the attainment of Vision 2030, that of attaining an upper middle class society.

On the agriculture front , the country is pursuing sustainable food security programmes through increasing irrigation hectarage and constructing new dams.

The summit is being held at a time the continent has just commemorated the Africa Industrialisation Day, which falls on the 20th of November. – zbcnews
