The 11-year-old girl from Damofalls, Harare, who was suffering from a brain tumour, and needed financial help for an operation, is now out of danger after a successful operation.

Zvikomborero Mudimbu initially needed about US$6 000 to get operated in India, but the operation was done locally at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals after well wishers raised funds.

Zvikomborero was born with a small tumour on her right eye, which over the years began to grow bigger and affected her eyesight such that she could no longer go to school.

The eye had started discharging some bloodied pus.

Zvikomborero’s mother, Ms Patience Mtisi, said she was grateful to everyone who contributed to the operation.

“I am happy that my daughter’s operation was successful,” she said.

“She is still in hospital, recovering. I would like to thank everyone who helped with money and other resources.”

Ms Mtisi thanked Radio Zimbabwe presenter, Rutendo Makuti, through whose programme listeners contributed $18 million so that Zvikomborero could receive treatment.

Ms Mtisi said Zviko endured a lot of pain as her affected eye sometimes discharged blood, causing her dizziness and severe headache.

A brain tumour is a mass or growth of abnormal cells in the brain.

There are many different types of brain tumours, with some of them being non-cancerous (benign), while others are cancerous (malignant). – The Herald
