THE Bulawayo City Council (BCC) and the Ministry of Health and Childcare are on a vaccination drive targeting squatter camps and other areas will low vaccination uptake amid a slight increase in Covid-19 cases in January.
In a statement, BCC said they, “will be conducting a vaccination programme for Covid-19 for all people aged 12 years and above.
“The campaign will target eligible populations due for Dose 1, Dose 2 and Dose 3 in an effort to reach herd immunity. It will further increase vaccination protection against severe Covid-19 manifestation.”
The campaign will run from February 6 to 11 at selected outreach points, schools, clinics and hospitals.
According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Zimbabwe had, as of Monday, recorded 263 189 Covid-19 cases including 256 314 recoveries and 5 659 deaths, with the national recovery rate pegged at 97 percent.
A total of 6 608 607 people have so far received the first dose of the vaccine with 4 966 725 having received their second dose while 1 312 817 have received their third dose.
In Bulawayo, a total of 22 749 Covid-19 cases have been recorded since the outbreak of the pandemic including 21 758 recoveries and 920 deaths.
In terms of vaccine coverage, 65 percent of the targeted 569 010 eligible Bulawayo residents have received the first dose, 56 percent have received the second while only 14,5 percent have received the third dose.
