The mother of an 11-year-old girl from Damofalls, Harare, who has a brain tumor, is seeking financial help for her daughter to be operated on in India at an estimated cost of US$6 000, excluding travel expenses.

A brain tumor is a mass or growth of abnormal cells in the brain. There are many different types of brain tumours with some them being non-cancerous (benign) while others are cancerous (malignant).

Zvikomborero Mudimbu was born with the tumor but it was very small.

Her mother, Ms Patience Mtisi told The Herald yesterday that her daughter was in desperate need of help to save her life.

“I gave birth to Zvikomborero and she had this condition. Over the years, the tumour has been growing inside her right eye,” she said.

Efforts to receive help from local doctors had been fruitless as they cited lack of sundries to undertake the operation.

She was, however, advised to seek help in India where she is now hoping to take her daughter if well-wishers come forward with assistance.

“A doctor in India said the operation alone would cost US$6 000, including medicines and in terms of accommodation, I would have to pay US$25 per day and she may need about a month to recover whilst she is under supervision there.”

Ms Mtisi said the condition had affected her daughter’s studies.

“My daughter is suffering. This eye sometimes discharges blood and she also suffers from dizziness and severe headaches.

“This has affected her education because she no longer goes to school every day.”

She said Zvikomborero feels discriminated against at school because other students mock her although there are a few who are sympathetic.

Those willing to help can get in touch with Zvikomborero’s mother on 0715 419 875 or 0781 255 172 – The Herald
