SEVEN local traditional groups and two from Zambia are some of the performing acts at this year’s National Culture Month celebrations slated for Binga on Saturday.

The event to be graced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa will be held at Kariyangwe Secondary School grounds under the theme “Promoting Cultural Diversity, Unity and Peace”.

A preparatory meeting was held yesterday in Binga and it showed that preparations are well on course.

“Seven local traditional dance groups have been identified to perform and two groups from Zambia will also grace the occasion,” read part of the minutes from the meeting.

Some of the local groups performing are Muchesu (Ngoma Buntibe), Ncalilayi (Chilimba), Tusole (Chilimba), Jeke Kujeke (Ngoma Buntibe) and Maaze (Ngoma Buntibe).

The chief director of the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Dr Benson Martins Dube said: “The Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation is busy preparing for the Culture Month Launch in Binga where His Excellency President Dr ED Mnangagwa will be officiating.

This is an annual event where we celebrate our cultural diversity and display ubuntu/hunhu characteristics.

It is a day when we exchange African experiences and showcase our traditional cuisines and dressing and even our traditional medicines etc.”

He said generally, all is in order and preparations are going on very well. “The boreholes have been drilled and electrified.

The chief (Chief Siansale)’s homestead now has a 3-phase Zesa power installed and the venue has been spruced up with the final touches being done.

“The whole idea is to leave a living legacy for the Chief and the people of Binga,” said Dube.

“Thirty-two kilometres of 136km of the dust road stretch is yet to be worked on. Victoria Falls Road rehabilitation has commenced.

“The ministry will also work on signage that shows the direction to the Chief’s homestead,” further read part of the minutes from the meeting. – The Chronicle
