THE first black-owned car manufacturing company in Southern Africa, Mureza Auto Company has spread its wings to Zambia producing 250 units per month.
Mureza Auto company was co-founded by a Zimbabwean- born and chief executive officer Mr Tatenda Mungofa was registered in Zimbabwe in 2011 is now operating in five African countries.
The company started designing and manufacturing cars in South Africa in 2021 and the first batch of their cars was released the same year.
Mr Mungofa told Business Chronicle that they have spread their wings to Zambia. It has a capacity to produce 250 units per month.
“Our latest branch was opened in Zambia last year. It is our micro-factory number three with a target production capacity of 250 units per month. It has an employment target of 1 000 permanent staff and it is an electronics components manufacturing hub.,” said Mr Mungofa.
“Our latest operation is in DRC, starting in February 2021. It will be a full manufacturing plant with a target capacity of at least 1 000 units per month. We will also be manufacturing EV batteries in DRC. This factory will serve Central, East, and parts of Northern Africa, targeting to employ 5000 employees.”
Mr Mungofa said at their head office in South Africa they are working on a main factory with a capacity of 1 000 units per month
He said the factory will produce both internal combustion engines (ICE) and electronic vehicles targeting 2 000 permanent employees.
The other branch is in Namibia with a target production capacity of 250 units per month
Mr Mungofa said it is an alternative energy vehicle production.
Meanwhile, Mureza Auto Company is working on launching Mureza Design School to train young car designers and automotive engineers to prepare them for careers in car manufacturing operations.
“Training centres will be located in all the countries we operate. Enrolment will start soon,” said Mr Mungofa.
He also said the company will be paying out the first dividend to investment partners and shareholders this year.
“Events will be held in Johannesburg and Harare to celebrate the success of those who have been supporting our growth financially,” he said.
In 2021, the firm exhibited for the first time at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) and scooped a prize for being the best foreign exhibitor in the automobile category. – The Chronicle
