DYNAMOS claim the perceived tensions in the club’s leadership are exaggerated.

Chairperson of the club’s 60th anniversary organising committee Denford Mutashu yesterday indicated that they were not at DeMbare to usurp powers of the executive.

The Harare giants unveiled a 25-member DeMbare @60 Anniversary Celebrations organising committee on December 9, 2022, which is chaired by Mutashu.

It was given the mandate to mobilise funds for the 60th anniversary celebrations to be held at the end of the year.

A number of activities such as road shows and raffle draws have already been lined up.

They will culminate in an awards night in December, where a Dynamos Hall of Fame is expected to be unveiled.

There, however, have been reports of tensions occasioned by fears that Mutashu and his crew could become a parallel structure that would ultimately usurp powers of the executive led by Moses Maunganidze.

The sentiments were reportedly expressed when the club’s executive met on Thursday, hours before the committee met in the capital.

The executive’s meeting outlined parameters of the committee.

Members of the committee were given their contracts and are now expected to formally start work tomorrow.

“Certainly, we are very clear on our mandate and basically anything and everything that we do has to be approved by the executive and the board,” Mutashu told The Sunday Mail Sport.

“We will not entertain our committee members who meddle in Dynamos’ affairs; we will definitely part ways with them if that happens.

“We are not coming to Dynamos for politics; we are coming to Dynamos to contribute to the development of the Dynamos brand.”

There were concerns by members of Maungaidze’s executive that they were being sidelined from activities related to the Dynamos anniversary.

The other worry was the composition of the committee, as well as transparency in the handling of mobilised funds.

“The most important thing here is that we are not coming to Dynamos to take money from the club but we are coming to Dynamos to contribute and add value from our end to the work that is already taking place at the club,” Mutashu added.

“One thing we have made very clear is that all the activities that we are going to do are going to be funded by the resources that are going to be mobilised by the committee.

“We are not going to go to Dynamos and ask for money. Even the token salaries for the committee members will be funded by funds we would have mobilised.

“We will eat what we kill.”

He undertook to apprise both the executive and the board of their activities.

“We are not going to step onto anyone’s mandate.

“The bigger picture, of course, is to make sure that Dynamos has got land to build a clubhouse, and that facility is certainly going to have other essentials like a gymnasium.”

The DeMbare @60 organising committee general manager and club chief executive officer, Jonathan Mashingaidze, confirmed that his members had signed contracts.

“The issues to do with the mandate, modus operandi and reporting structure of the organising committee have been dealt with,” he said.

“It’s true parallel structures do confuse a system but this committee is not competing with the club’s executive.”

The 25-member organising committee includes former women’s football boss Mavis Gumbo, Prince Edward headmaster Agrippa Sora, marketer Spencer Manguwa, Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce CEO Chris Mugaga and Colbert Chimedza of 4 May.

Former Dynamos striker Edward Sadomba, Air Zimbabwe chief executive officer Tafadzwa Zaza, Godfrey Koti of Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, entrepreneur Wanisai “Mahwindo” Mutandwa and Sekai Peters are also on the committee, as well as Dynamos national supporters’ association chairperson Benjamin Munzira. – Sunday Mail
