PRESIDENT Mnangagwa on Thursday recalled the day he was poisoned while attending a Zanu-PF Presidential Interface Rally at Phelandaba Stadium in Gwanda in 2017, saying the poisoning incident has made him even much stronger.
President Mnangagwa, who was then one of the Vice-Presidents had to be airlifted to Gweru en-route to South Africa where doctors flushed out the poison and saved his life. Speaking during a rally at the same stadium where he was poisoned in Gwanda Town, President Mnangagwa said the incident made him even stronger.
“There are some who probably came here to really see whether I’m still alive as I had been poisoned. It’s true I’m still alive and I’m even stronger than the time when I was poisoned. I’m still here and I will live longer than the person who poisoned me. I’m here, I’m with you and I will listen to your complaints and your challenges and together we shall seek solutions for the challenges that face us as a people,” he said.
President Mnangagwa added: “In order for us to continue to preserve our liberation gains every five years when there are elections, we have to vote for Zanu-PF. It’s the only party which knows how to preserve the gains of the liberation struggle. This is our country and it’s us who have to protect it against those who want to divide us and it’s us who can preserve our natural resources.”
Since the coming in of the Second Republic in November 2017, President Mnangagwa’s Government has been rallying Zimbabweans to unite and work together for the betterment of the country.
He said despite illegal sanctions that had been imposed by Western countries, the country has been recording significant development.
President Mnangagwa said the Zanu-PF Government has resolved that instead of complaining about sanctions it had to look internally and think outside the box in order to develop the country using God given resources.
He said the country was now producing its own wheat which was enough to feed the nation, producing its own medical oxygen, Personal Protective Equipment, developing its own products, engaged on a rural industrialisation drive, building its own dams, constructing clinics, schools, constructing and maintaining roads based on locally available resources. He said the agriculture sector was also transforming.
In his remarks, Zanu-PF Matabeleland South Deputy Chairperson, Cde Albert Nguluvhe said the province was always delighted in hosting the President in Gwanda and seeing him fit and strong.
“I recall very well that incident as I was seated close to you. I recall you standing up and I was worried. I’m glad that you are back here to speak to the people. Your Excellency the Government under your leadership has brought huge development to this country.
“As a party when we heard that you would be coming to commission buses we decided to gather people to come and witness some of your developmental works so they can bear witness,” he said. – Sunday News
