POLICE on Monday intercepted and arrested three women in Plumtree, Matabeleland South as they were loading 4,4 tonnes of Compound D fertiliser stolen from the Presidential Inputs Scheme.
The law enforcement agents identified the three as Christine Pfunde (47), Faith Ncube (50) and Rita Mathe (48).
They were caught loading 88 x 50kgs of Compound D fertiliser into a Harare-bound bus from a Toyota Hiace vehicle.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said:
“On November 14, 2022, police in Plumtree acted on a tip-off and arrested Christine Pfunde (47) , Faith Ncube (50) and Rita Mathe (48) for unlawful purchase and possession of Presidential Agricultural inputs.
“The suspects were intercepted by the Police at Plumtree town bus terminus while loading 88 x 50kg of Compound D fertiliser into a Harare bound bus from a Toyota Hiace vehicle.”
The arrest comes after police in Matabeleland North launched investigations into the theft of 140 bags of fertiliser from Sipepa Community Hall in the Tsholotsho district.
The stolen fertiliser was part of 600 bags of Compound D fertiliser and 600 bags of Ammonium Nitrate fertilizer delivered by GMB Tsholotsho to Sipepa Community Hall for safekeeping pending distribution to villagers.
