THE resolutions that were adopted at the just-ended Zanu-PF 7th National People’s Congress will be transformed into policies for implementation and guide the Government roadmap for the coming five years.
The ruling party held its 7th National People’s Congress from Wednesday ending on Saturday.
The Congress proved that there is stability within the ruling party with top leadership being retained while economic focus took centre stage during the deliberations.
President Mnangagwa cemented the party’s position in his closing remarks when he said tackling poverty, creating modern-day jobs and developing the country is at the heart of Zanu-PF.
President Mnangagwa was endorsed as the party’s President and First Secretary while Cdes Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi were retained as Vice-Presidents and Second Secretaries.
President Mnangagwa also retained Cde Oppah Muchinguri as the party’s national chairperson while Cde Obert Mpofu kept his Secretary for Administration position, Cde Patrick Chinamasa secretary for finance, Cde Mike Bimha as national political commissar and Cde Lovemore Matuke as secretary for security.
President Mnangagwa reappointed Cde Mabel Chinomona as Secretary for the Women’s League and Cde Douglas Mahiya as Secretary for the newly established War Veterans League.
In an interview yesterday, Cde Mpofu said President Mnangagwa has shown that he has confidence in the party’s leadership.
“The President has appointed a team that is tried and tested. I can’t speak for him but I believe he wants to maintain a team that is able to deliver,” said Cde Mpofu.
He said the resolutions that were adopted will not just guide the ruling party but dictate Government’s planning.
“All the resolutions are important, the resolutions that the party comes up with are changed into policies forimplementation.
“All the resolutions that were tabled before Congress will now be converted into policies which Government will now implement,” he said.
“Be it economic, social or political, those resolutions are very important because they serve as a guideline to a roadmap that the Government is going to follow in the party’s 2030 national vision.
“The resolutions are not meant for just one’s year’s budget, they are meant for five years. They will actually be guiding-principles to the decisions, actions and direction of the party for the next five years.”
Cde Mpofu said Zanu-PF remains a people’s party with a proven track record towards developing the country.
He said the party speaks to Zimbabweans’ aspirations.
“Zanu-PF is a colossal party and the President has proved to all and sundry, including the international community that the people of Zimbabwe believe in Zanu-PF. Zanu-PF is the party that sacrificed for this country and there cannot be any other alternative to that kind of achievement that the party has made from the liberation struggle to independence and what it is working towards in the future,” he said.
Cde Mpofu said he is confident that the party will romp to victory considering the direction that it is taking.
Cde Zenzo Nsimbi, who was appointed a Central Committee member for Bulawayo province, commended President Mnangagwa for selecting him as one of the 10 Central Committee members to be chosen by the party’s First Secretary.
He said being appointed marks the start of a journey as the ruling party prepares for the 2023 Harmonised Elections.
“Bulawayo is not foreign to me as a Central Committee member. I’m an old Central Committee member, I left when I went for the diplomatic service.
“I’m thankful that the President has seen it fit to put me back. It means the President is putting together what might be a winning team and I acknowledge he is actually putting me in order to work for Bulawayo,” he said.
Cde Nsimbi said it was important that the party has set sights on addressing economic challenges and some of the policies are already working.
President Mnangagwa said the party will remain guided by the mantra “leave no place and no one behind in pursuit of inclusive development”. – The Chronicle
