Seventeen people on Wednesday appeared in court on charges of public violence related to chaos that rocked Mupedzanhamo market in Mbare over the past weekend.
The accused, who were represented by Brighton Sadowera, appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi, who remanded Mangosi remanded them in custody to Thursday for bail application.
It is alleged that on October 10, the 17 accused – split in two opposing groups – wreaked havoc in Mbare as they battled for control of vending stalls at Mupedzanhamo. The State says they threw stones at each other and at vehicles, assaulted innocent passers-by and blocked traffic.
Police say they arrested the accused at the scene of the crime.
