The new Egyptian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Salwa Mowafi, has commended Zimbabweans for their resilience in the face of adversity and the progress the country has made under the Second Republic.

Ambassador Mowafi was speaking after paying a courtesy call on Speaker of the National Assembly Advocate Jacob Mudenda at Parliament Building yesterday.

Despite the country being under illegal sanctions for the past 20 years, the Second Republic under President Mnangagwa has set the economy on a growth path through implementation of various infrastructure projects mainly funded from local resources and friendly nations.

These projects include dams, roads and power stations.

Egypt has offered its expertise to Zimbabwe for its construction of a new city in Mt Hampden using experience it has gained in a similar project in Cairo.

Ambassador Mowafi said they had also discussed other issues with Adv Mudenda.

“Actually, I had the pleasure today of meeting the Speaker of Parliament and we had an opportunity to discuss several issues of mutual interest between the two sister countries,” she said. “We have these excellent relations between Egypt and Zimbabwe dating back to before independence, during the time of the liberation struggle.

“We want to continue with this excellent relations and we would want to move them to better horizons particularly trade; the numbers should improve and investment for the improvement of the welfare of the sister peoples of Egypt and Zimbabwe.” – The Herald
