THE Second Republic led by President Mnangagwa deserves another term in office so that it can continue with life changing developmental projects that are meant to transform the lives of Zimbabweans, Politburo member Cde July Moyo has said.
Addressing thousands of Zanu-PF supporters who thronged Amaveni Stadium in Kwekwe recently for the Kwekwe Central Campaign launch, Cde Moyo, who is also Minister of Local Government and Public Works, urged party supporters to remain united ahead of the August 23 harmonised elections.
Cde Energy Ncube will represent the ruling party in Kwekwe Central and will battle it out with incumbent Judith Tobaiwa of CCC and Maonero Derreck of UZA as well as former councillor Mbekezeli Ndlovu of MDC.
Cde Moyo said the Second Republic has done a lot for Zimbabweans and must have another term in office to complete its many projects.
“The Second Republic has done a lot since coming into office including construction of roads, bridges, dams, schools, clinics, expansion of Hwange Thermal Power Station Unit 7 and 8 and boosting farming production through Intwasa/Pfumvudza programme among many other life changing projects. Some of the projects are still ongoing and for that reason, let us vote for Zanu-PF, the only party with people at heart,” he said.
Cde Moyo said the opposition which was running urban local authorities was shortchanging residents by failing to provide the required services.
He said it was for this reason that Zanu-PF is working hard to retain all seats including those in urban areas so that it improves services delivery in towns and cities across the country.
“Let us work very hard to ensure a resounding victory for our party in both rural and urban areas so that we stop this mismanagement in urban areas by opposition councillors. We want to control the city councils and provincial councils so that our development is coordinated,” said Minister Moyo.
He said Kwekwe was so dear to the President and the electorate should therefore ensure it is under the control of the ruling party.
“This is a unique constituency and winning it will be a special present for President Mnangagwa. We all know the history of the constituency and what it means to him,” he said.
Addressing the same campaign rally, Midlands Provincial Deputy Chairperson, Cde Edson Chiherenge urged party members to remain united and guard against being swayed by people who left the party.
“People like (Saviour) Kasukuwere are directionless hence they are no longer members of the party. What they want is to cause confusion in the party and as such we should not entertain them. Do not be misled by such people who confuse you because they were once part of us. Kasukuwere has no party now because he left Zanu-PF to be independent,” he said.
Cde Chiherenge said party members should remain united and fight against one opponent which is the opposition parties.
“We should stop fighting among ourselves and focus on one common enemy which is opposition parties and independent candidates. Let us remain united and vote resoundingly for President Mnangagwa who has a lot of outstanding projects that are lined up,” said Cde Chiherenge.
He warned party members against following individual party members instead of the party.
“There is no-one bigger than the party and no one in the party owns people. We all belong to Zanu-PF, and if someone decides to go astray, let them go and leave the supporters alone,” he said.
Midlands Provincial secretary for Security, Cde Owen Ncube said the situation had reached another level and reiterated the need for unity ahead of the elections.
“The situation has reached another level and we have to go up another gear in our campaign strategy. We have already won 73 wards and we need to finish off the job that we started by delivering a resounding victory for Cde Mnangagwa,” he said. –
