Harare – The government has paid out over ZWL 820 million in first term school fees as part of assistance that it renders to teachers, on the government payroll, who have children in primary and secondary school.
This is part of efforts by the government to cushion its workers.
In a statement, Public Service Commission secretary, Tsitsi Choruma said the government was committed to ensuring the well-being of all civil servants.
“As at 4th January 2023, the Salary Service Bureau had processed the payment of ZWL$ 827 847 387.81 for 41 194 children of 18 794 teaching parents under the School Fees Allowance,” she said.
Going forward, she said the PSC expects applications for the 2023 school fees allowance to reach District, Provincial or Head Office by 30 January for the first term, 15 May for the second term, and by 11 September for the third term.
“The onus lies with the applicants to ensure that their applications are submitted by the dates indicated. Late applications will not be processed.”
The school fees assistance programme came into being in 2022 following engagements between the government and its workers in the Joint National Negotiating Council.
The school fees allowance facility caters for up to a maximum of three biological children of teaching parents.
Potential beneficiaries must complete application and include a certified copy of national identity card of the applicant, certified copy/copies of birth certificate(s) for biological child/children.
Proof of enrolment of child/children from the school they attend is also required.
