His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa declared Cde Betty Flora Mutero a national Heroine.
She died on Tuesday last week. Cde Betty Mutero a Member of the revolutionary Party’s National Consultative Assembly Member was born in the 1930s began her political journey as a member of the National Democratic Party in the early 1960s, then ZAPU, ZANU.
During the liberation struggle, she worked as a member of the underground team that mobilized and facilited resources and passage for the liberation fighters.
Her home in Bulawayo hosted the funeral of the late national hero Cde Samuel Parirenyatwa.
The family had to pay for hosting this funeral as the racist Rhodesians later bombed house. A number of female combatants were also housed after the liberation struggle.
She is also famed for empowering the grassroots through establishing various empowerment schemes which benefited many across the country.
As a forthright and fearless Cadre she raised a pertinent issue in the Central Committee in 2017. She told the former late President Cde RG Mugabe who was by the way her relative that the wife Grace Mugabe was the source of problems within the Party as she was leading a G40 faction which was unjustifiably attacking a senior member of the Party, the then Vice President Mnangagwa.
The issue was brought to light when Grace Mugabe said this issues at one of her rallies. Gogo Mutero worked extensively with different empowerment organizations including the United Nations and the late Sally Mugabe’s child survival Foundation.
