Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi has castigated opposition Parliamentarians for abusing the Gukurahundi issue when they have no solutions to bring closure to it.
Ziyambi was responding to claims by the Citizens Coalition for Change of political violence in Matobo, Matabeleland South at the weekend with some equating the alleged incident to Gukurahundi.
He said while the government led by President Mnangagwa was working on delivering closure on Gukurahundi, opposition MPs were using it to further selfish politics.
“Each time some members stand up, they try as much as possible to smuggle in issues of Gukurahundi, which the President is addressing,” said Ziyambi during Wednesday’s question time.
“Everything that happens in Matabeleland, whether political or not political, they want to bring in issues of Gukurahundi, which they know themselves they do not know how to solve.
“I believe it is inappropriate to use this Parliament to bring in issues of Gukurahundi which the President is addressing.”
Ziyambi said he had never seen any one of them acknowledging the good work that the President is doing to ensure that Gukurahundi goes to closure.
“They should have acknowledged that the President is doing a lot to ensure that we remain a unitary State, but each time they try as much as possible to do that.”
President Mnangagwa on Monday launched the manual on engagement processes by chiefs on the Gukurahundi issue at State House in Bulawayo.
The launch paves the way for the holding of public hearings on Gukurahundi by traditional leaders, a process funded by the government.
