FORMER Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko’s son Siqokoqela has made shocking revelations that he does not know the identity of his mother.
Mphoko wedded Laurinda, a Mozambican national during the liberation struggle in 1977 and his best man was former South African President Jacob Zuma.
All along, the popular belief was that Laurinda was Siqokoqela’s biological mother until his arrest in August over allegations of raping his 12-year-old niece.
He is facing an additional charge of escaping from lawful custody after bolting from Hillside Police Station in Bulawayo on 30 August following his arrest before handing himself over to the police the next day.
In his application for bail, Siqokoqela (44) dropped the bombshell accusing family members of trying to frustrate his efforts to find out the identity of his biological mother.
“I actually sent the grandfather of the victim to go and ask my father who my biological mother was,” said Siqokoqela in court papers.
Sources close to the family confirmed that Siqokoqela sent a relative to Mphoko to inquire about his biological mother.
“Mphoko was livid when approached by the relative and his response was not very pleasant,” said the source.
The High Court released Siqokoqela on $50 000 bail and report to Hillside Police Station once a month.
Additionally, Siqokoqela, who is represented by Bulawayo lawyer Zibusiso Ncube, was ordered to surrender his passport and title deeds of his Hillside to the High Court in Bulawayo.
